“Management Catalogue for Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products (First Batch)” includes 12 types of products: refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines, electric water heaters, printers, copiers, fax machines (and all-in-ones), televisions, monitors, and microcomputers (including all-in-ones, tablets, handheld computers), mobile communication handsets, and telephone.

Restricted substances managed in the “Administrative Measures on the Restriction of Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products” : lead and its compounds; mercury and its compounds; cadmium and its compounds; hexavalent chromium compounds; polybrominated biphenyls; polybrominated diphenyl ethers and other hazardous substances regulated by the State .

The process involves following 4 steps: 

       Submit the RoHS application 

       Send samples/modules for testing to an accredited lab in China 

       Provide test board that allows the module to operate in a test protocol mode.  This should be available from the         　  module manufacturer 

       Receive the certification if approved after testing by relevant authorities
